June ‘23 - HSCC Donington HSCC Mid-Summer Race - Class D Winners

For the very first time we raced with the brilliant HSCC and we’ve been impressed with the organisation and driving standards. Will certainly return! Because of our busy calendar, we looked at this weekend’s racing as more of a hot weather test ahead of the big race at Monza in July. We were coming on the back of the fabulous Classic Alfa track day at Goodwood where the car run very well, but we noticed some slight overheating issues that we dealt with. Other than the hot temps, the major novelty in terms of car preparation was the bonnet. If you watched our latest YouTube video, we HAD to source a new bonnet from Italy to replace the original. Unfortunately the “new” bonnet was very rusty so our panel beater extraordinaire was called into action to make up a new outer and inner front section for the bonnet. For this weekend, we had the bonnet painted colour matching the rest of the Spider in Rosso Alfa and away we went to our home circuit, Donington Park.

We were all set up before qualifying, a quick spanner and fluids check for the race car and we went into qualifying with confidence. Best lap time was much improved from our previous appearance at Donington now getting into the 1 minute 35 seconds. We qualified mid pack ahead of some faster cars on paper like the large Ford Galaxie and Lotus Elite.

In the race we had a great start and set on chasing the Lotus Elite which we put a move on a couple of laps before the end to finish a well deserved 14th OA and most important 1st in sub 2 litre class of full steel bodied cars. A good result that solidifies the 100% reliability of the Alficina built 101 Spider Veloce, always there at the chequered flag.
